the results are in!

We recently took a survey of the TCAUP students, and the results were that 90% of students would definitely like to have a walk-in help session available to them to ask open-ended questions about software issues. Rhino was the most popular choice in software help that people wanted (which Kyle and I both know very well so that shouldn’t be a problem).
The most important part of the survey was in scheduling the walk-in times. Most people said Wednesday mornings between 10:30 and 12:30 would be the best time for their schedules, and Sunday afternoon came in close second. What I think we’ll do is hold hours every week on Wednesdays, and then perhaps hold our tutorials on Sunday afternoons since the rooms with projectors are incredibly difficult to check out during the week.
We’ll try this for a little bit and see how it goes!

Our website has gotten a facelift! Check it out: www.umich.edu/~aias. Now that the year’s digital updating has begun, the blog will act as a way to get quick updates to events and a place to store recent tutorials, but if you want the detailed 411, please be sure to refer to the website.
In regards to upcoming events, our kickoff event is tomorrow afternoon in the courtyard. We’ll be grilling hot dogs and hamburgers (as well as veggie burgers), as well as talking about vital information on how to get involved this year.
On September 24th, our technology committee will be holding its first tutorial of the year – a photoshop tutorial that covers the basic tools you need to know. It’s geared toward the incoming UG1 students and walks through putting together a joiner and process diagrams, much like what is required of you for your first Construction project – so we expect most of the UG1 students to come!
The doctor is in!

The technology committee is trying a new “help hotline” this year! Every other Thursday, starting September 17th, we will have somebody available at their studio desk to answer any digital-related questions you might have, from 9:30am until 10:30am. We’ll answer any questions you might come across, ranging from questions about connecting to the wireless network in the building to specific roadblocks you are coming across as you are trying to use a specific problem.
We will post the desk locations of the “digital doctors” soon, as well as establish a forum for answered questions that we see useful to the general student body. Depending on the popularity of the digital help sessions, we might require a sign-up list, but for now it will be “walk in as you please”.
